End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere.

To ensure that women's rights are protected in all areas of their lives, the Government regularly reviews and updates our legislation to enhance the protection of women. For example, to strengthen access to fair and merit-based employment opportunities, we passed the Workplace Fairness Act this year, which will prohibit workplace discrimination on the basis of sex, marital status, pregnancy status, and caregiving responsibilities, among other protected characteristics.

As a city state, Singapore’s government carries out both national and local functions. Data refer to the proportion of female members of parliament at the start of a new Parliament term. For example, the figures for 2020 to 2023 remained the same as these are based on the start of the 14th Parliament.

Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.

Indicator 5.C.1 | Proportion of countries with systems to track and make public allocations for gender equality and women’s empowerment

Singapore ensures that all citizens have equal access to fundamental resources such as education, healthcare and social protection. Singapore coordinates efforts across the whole-of-government to ensure that the impact of our policies on women are taken into account at all levels and stages in the design, planning and delivery of programmes.
Government expenditures are considered by our Parliament during the annual Committee of Supply, where members debate the policies and programmes of Ministries; as such, there is Parliamentary scrutiny over the implementation, outcome and impact of policies, including policies related to women’s development and promotion of gender equality.
