Data are preliminary when first released. na not available or not applicable. 1 Refers to % change in latest period over the same period in the previous year. 2 Refers to % change in the previous period over the same period in the previous year. 3 Refers to the resident population (i.e. Singapore citizens and permanent residents). 4 The Singapore resident population as at June 2020 is used as the standard population which is chosen to fix the age structure to eliminate its effect on mortality trends. 5 Life expectancy for 2020-2023 have been affected by higher mortality rates, particularly those observed in 2021 and 2022, arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. As these higher mortality rates are assumed to apply throughout a lifetime, life expectancy data for 2020 to 2023 may not accurately represent the number of years individuals can expect to live, if mortality rates return to pre-pandemic levels.
