Confidentiality and Security of Information

As the key producer of official statistics in Singapore and the custodian of data provided to our Department, data confidentiality and security are of paramount importance to the Singapore Department of Statistics. The design and approach of the HES 2022/23 data collection is built based on this underlying principle.

All selected respondents will receive a notification letter with a unique House ID. Respondents may register to provide their information online using the House ID and their Singpass.

When visiting households to complete the survey, survey officers will carry a Letter of Authorisation and Identification Badge as a form of authentication. Respondents may also call the HES 2022/23 hotline to verify the officer’s identity.

Legal Authority

The Household Expenditure Survey (HES) is conducted Statistics Act 1973 under the which requires all selected households to provide the necessary information. All responses will be kept in confidence in accordance with the Statistics Act.

Survey officers handling the individual survey information are required to sign the undertakings under the Statistics Act as well as the Official Secrets Act.
