There are currently seven main power generation companies (gencos) participating in the National Electricity Market of Singapore (NEMS). NEMS is a real-time electricity trading pool operated and administered by the Energy Market Company. The gencos bid to sell electricity on a half-hourly basis through NEMS.
As at December 2020, the total registered power generation capacity (excluding solar photovoltaics) was 12,021.1 MW (megawatt). As at December 2020, there was 432.2 MWp (megawatt-peak) of grid-connected solar photovoltaic capacity. The total amount of electricity generated in 2020 was 53,080.5 GWh (gigawatt-hour), while the peak demand was 7,376 MW.
With the Open Electricity Market, all households and businesses can purchase electricity from an electricity retailer of their choice, with a price plan that best meets their needs. There were 26 licensed electricity retailers as at end December 2021.

Electricity Products and Consumption
The gas industry in Singapore consists of two separate gas networks - the natural gas network and the town gas network.
Natural gas is used mainly for power generation and industrial feedstock. In 2021, natural gas contributed to about 95% of the total electricity generated.
The town gas network serves about 62% of households in Singapore and is used mainly for cooking and water heating. Total amount of town gas sold in 2021 was 1,667 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of which 52% was for domestic and 48% was for non-domestic consumption. There are about 875,000 town gas accounts in Singapore, of which 1.74% are commercial and industrial customers.

Footnotes
Arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increase in domestic sales of potable water due to more prevalent work-from-home arrangements; and a decrease in non-domestic sales of potable water, sales of NEWater and industrial water due to an overall decline in economic activities.
